    Grey Heron (Ardea cinerea)
    Western Cape - Knysna - road through the Lagoon - mid summer

    Got out of the car and got quite near this fella - 50% crop of D7200 image

    HH - D7200 – 300 f4 PF – TC 1,4
    1/640th – f8 - ISO180 – 50% Crop
    light was good but flat sun - if you see what I mean

    Very nice sharp in the face and eye.Good bk. I think could better more space in right side (also cutting in the left side...)

    Hi Bill,just a bit more at the bottom if you have it,exposure sharpness and detail all look great to me,did well getting close to this one.

    Love the colours and grasses on this one. Nice detail on the Heron. It needs more on the bottom, because of the length of the herons legs, had they been visible. I would add some canvas if you don't have it. Then change the crop to suit.

    Hi Bill, I like the alert stare from the Heron, and great that he is clear of the grasses. Another vote for leaving space below for the virtual legs, and it looks like this was in harsh light.

    Thanks guys for your comments - unfortunately I do not have anymore true space at the bottom, (must keep my distance next time!!)

    If I add canvas, it will be noticeable

    The weather was mid summer and hot - the colour of the grasses reflects the time of year
