Default Hadada, (Hadeda) Ibis - Head Shot

    Hadada, (Hadeda) Ibis (Bostrychia hagedash)

    D7200 – 300 f4 PF – TC 1,4
    1/1250th – f6.3 - ISO 1400
    60% Crop

another shot my very favourite "walk about" lens

Western Cape S Africa ..... our back garden, (Nature Reserve)

Sometimes these birds run away from you, (adults) - sometimes they will just look at you, more likely with a Juvenile ...

this one just looked at me...... so it's a 60% crop ...... I did get down on my knees and at my age that's not easy, (getting back up that is!!!)

taken late afternoon in the soft shadowy sunlight

A nice looking ibis, set off well against that simple background. Fine detail may have suffered a little from the large crop, but not much, to my eye. Sounds like you're pleased with the 300PF + 1.4 TC. How's the autofocus with that setup?

    Thanks Bill,

yep very pleased with the 300mm f4 PF VR + 1,4TC, almost permantely attached to my D750

most of the time I use single cell focus and sometimes a small, 5 cell group for BIF's - always HH - not had any trouble with AF

It is small, light weight and therefore great to carry around, (almost pocketable), and perfect for travel - it also works well with the TC 1,7 and very good on it's own if you can get near

The IQ is better here Bill, the smaller crop than normal has helped.

I think the bird could do with being a little higher in the frame rather than benign the top 1/3 line.

I love the red on the bill. Good details and I like the pale green BG. Going for in-camera verticals would have been an option here to include more of the bird's chest without having to crop so much.
