Recently on Lady Elliot Island (southern end of the Great Barrier Reef) we were lucky enough to have five families of these birds nesting with young right beside our cabin. One of the parents would head out to sea to get dinner and be away for hours. Notice of their return was when the adults on the ground started barking in response to calls from the returning bird which they could hear well before I could. They aren't ground birds by any stretch, they just plop from the sky and shuffle around a bit like a penguin.

always difficult shooting into the bright sky - you have controlled the whites well - pity that there is not more detail in the eye - but I know that would be difficult to achieve
I always prefer more space around BIF's - I like to see them flying "somewhere" - but that's just my preference
