Amazing textures and behavior captured....Awesome IQ and very nice appeal to a mundane animal.
Now for me here the colors are very warm, almost like the WB is very high...like 5800 plus. Lots of yellows and oranges.
Maybe it needs a CW rotation...?

Thanks Dumay. Interesting that you say that. The light in South Luangwa seemed warmer to me and the golden hour lasted a little longer than I usually experience in the Kruger area. The WB here is actually 4650 and the tint +5. The mud was sort of a yellowish color and kind of disgusting.
Thanks again,
Rachel

Hey Rachel,
Another beautiful frame. I like the details and the environment around the bull. I liked these guys a lot during my trip to Kenya. As one of our guides said they always looked at you like you owe them money. They are great with some ox packers on them, too.
Thanks for sharing!

Hi Rachel, now that sure is a mud pack this big fellow has got himself into. Good eye contact, and you have brought out the detail nicely. Well exposed on his face, and I do like the vegetation in the BG.

Thanks Kalin and Stu, much appreciated.

Hi Rachel -- I like the warm tones here and the details are good as usual . Not a pleasing FG in this case but it was there so can't really help.

My first impression is like Dumay, way too yellow, the image is just awash and leaves little separation between environment & subject, but you were there. The SS I think is not high enough, you could have easily gone to ISO2500+ with minimal loss, if any and the head would have been better IMHO, especially coupled with that lens. I would suggest you look to applying some Curves adjustments in the darker 3/4 tones and mid tones, it creates more definition and detail in the mud caked body. I think you could also look at the exposure in both FG & BKG to add some more layering in the overall capture.
Just my take.

Thanks Haseeb, Steve and Gio. Steve - It's really hard to describe the light at times in South Luangwa. The warmth and ethereal feeling seemed to last longer than other places I've been in Africa. I think mine is closer to the actual scene but agree about bringing out the additional detail and definition.
Thanks again,
Rachel

Rachel it looks like you grabbed this just as he got up I perceive water still running off him, which enhances this alot for me. With no experience of Africa or it's light the WB discussion is something i cannot comment on,but interesting to me all the same. I love the power eveident in your Bull Rachel, the mud caking from the wallow is just fabulous, instantly I want him to just look up a bit,I'm unsure why ,maybe the head down pose (although it might be characteristic?) makes him look a bit sullen . He's enchanting mate what a wonderful encounter this must have been, thanks for sharing this
take care

Hi Rachel must say I,m fine with your original post, even though the head is down still gives the impression of looking at you, love the way you get all the textures of the mud both dry and wet,I really like this.

Lovely image Rachel - you have caught the eye well - a shot to be proud of and cherish
the power and the "beauty" of nature
I can see the merit in the WB re-post, but there should be a reflection, (excuse the pun), of the strong African sunlight
I always call this type of warmth, (your original posting) as the "Canon Cloudy setting" as far as WB was concerned
