This was taken today and I must admit to being quite pleased with it. First off, I've not managed to capture a reasonable image of this species before now. Second, I've been after a preening shot with reasonable eye contact for a while now. But does it work for you or should I file it in the 'for my eyes only' drawer?

    1DS Mark ii with 400mm DO + Canon 1.4 TC. ISO 800, F5.6 @ 1/1250 Sec. Aperture Priority. Evaluative Metering with - 1/3 EC.

I like it a lot Sean !!! Might go square with it !!!

It is a very nice pose with lots of detail and gorgeous bg !!! btw there is nothing you can do about the tail. No stopping down will get it within the dof, does not bother me at all Love the image !!!!

I agree - this really caught my eye. I love it, especially that the bird is on one foot, the eye and the round shape of the bird in this position.

Adorable! I really love how the bit of rock right underneath is perfectly color coordinated and with sparklies even! Neat!

I think square might look nice too

Agreed, square crop (which is a favorite of mine) and this is indeed really super.

A square crop is not something I would generally go for, in fact I don't think I've ever done one before but, I've tried it and it is definitely an improvement. Thanks everyone.
