This image was captured in my backyard this morning. The perch is a dead branch that I have left on a tree that is closed to my bird feeders. I would have liked a bit more of a head turn.

    The Camera Data:
    Camera: Canon 40D
    Exposure: 1/250s at 5.6
    Exposure Mode: Aperture priority
    Metering Mode: Evaluative
    ISO:1600
    AutoFocus: Al Focus
    Focal Length: 700mm
    Canon 500mm IS
    Canon EF II 1.4 Extender
Flash: Fired, compulsory mode; compensation -1.0
    Triopod:
    Gitzo 3530LVS
    Mongoose 3.5

    Editing:
    Full Frame
    Slight changes in:
    temperature
    curves
    levels
    smart sharping
selective noise reduction on the background

Thanks for taking your time to look and special thanks for your comments and critiques.

    Regards,

    Phil

As with you last post (Female Mallard), this image is soooo sharp, but not over-sharpened. The bg is perfect, in fact, I really like the multiple shades of brown throughout the image. I like the composition, ignoring the HA that you have already commented on. Lots of character in the perch, adds to the overall impression.
I also really appreciate reading all the data about the image. It's helpful for eager to learn learners.
The bird seems a bit low in the image. Maybe crop a bit off the top?
Thanks for posting this image. Look forward to many more.
