    Default Salmon for lunch

Taken at one of the bear lodges in BC this September, the lighting was fair but the background created a somewhat monochrome image. Processed in lightroom to lift shadows and control highlights.
I think it stands on its own merits but not sure if there is anything I can do to give it just that little bit more.

    Canon 7Dii with 100-400 mkii (at 300mm), ISO 800, f5.6, 1/800 sec. No cropping.

Lovely fine details ab=nd good textures in the fur. I would give a bit more room on the right and less on the left. Have the whole bird in the image and less of the dark rock in the top RHC. Lovely action. A dream for me to photograph Bears chasing Salmon....

Hi Mike - Good to have you posting again. These bears move quick when they pounce so well done on getting the pounce. Agree with Dumay about more room to the right but understand this is ff. I wonder if you went a little too far in lifting the shadows. I gave the bear a bit more depth in a quick curves adjustment. Also remember that you can post 1200px wide.

    TFS,
    Rachel

Than you both for your comments.

The touch on the curves has helped a lot Rachel - I shall play around and see I can replicate it.
The framing was a bit tight and I did think about extending the canvas to give a bit more room so will give that a shot as well.

First look I thought it needed just a little extra in the blacks - maybe not quite as much as Rachel, but somewhere in between.

I like the jumping pose, but I think the killer frame would have been just a bit earlier as he was coming a bit more towards you - do you have any earlier frames from this sequence?

As already mentioned, the best framing would have had him a bit further to the left, but easier said than done in a fast reaction setting in the field.

Hi Mike -- very nice image and good timing on freezing the moment ! I too agree with the above suggestions especially regarding the framing . Rachel's RP certainly lifts the image . Hope to see you posting more .

    TFS !
