Coot on the move
One from earlier this year. There was a small mound that was in front of the bird, which in hindsight maybe I should have raised the lens over, but I thought it fits this months theme if nothing else! I tried to get a sense of movement in the frame rather than freeze the action totally, hence the slightly lower shutter speed than normal.
Canon 5d3
500mm f4is
ISO 1600
1/1000th f7.1
A couple of blemishes in the BG smoothed out.

Good one and a good view of their unusual feet. Some detail lost in patches of the blacks, but easy to do.

Hi Mike, excellent exposure on the Coot, and love the low perspective. Well timed to get the raised foot, and yes a touch higher may have shown the other foot.

Hi Mike - I think you needed a significantly lower ss to really get that sense of movement though the raised leg helps. Great low pov and good suggestions above.

Excellent image . absolutely superb exposure in blacks.
Very nice pose with raised foot.
How did you manage to get such beautiful blacks.
I have spend three hours in the morning to get coots images, but not black like your coot.

satish.

Nice rich blacks, and good details. I'm OK with the low angle and resulting BG. With the one foot up I'm not missing the one that does not show. That one white speck behind the eye is crying to be removed IMO.

Great details in the blacks, foot raised is a bonus. The only improvement would have been a slightly higher angle to eliminate the OOF foreground. The OOF and then thin amount of sharp foreground distracts my eye.
