This guy was on a mission, a younger bull had dared stray into the vicinity and he was having none of it! Needless to say I wasn't far from a tree, I have some considerable respect for these animals, all the warning signs in the park are there for good reason.
Image taken in an area known as Gros Ventre, early morning light and rather dull....but plenty to follow!

    Hello Jon,

Lovely capture and the Moose stands out beautifully from its environment.

Super pose with that L front limb raised.

I do not think it is dull at all, just not sure about the colour of the subject's coat - is there perhaps too much blue and magenta creeping in? I have never seen this species before so just guessing, let me know what you think.

Thank you so much for sharing,

    Have a lovely Sunday,
    Gabriela Plesea

Hi Jon - I wondered when we would start seeing images from your trip. Glad you got to see a moose. I like the fall tones to the image and the comp. If it were mine I would open up the midtones a bit more for some more detail on the body and to give the overall image a lift. First thing I noticed on viewing the image was the blue cast to the body. An easy fix. Looking forward to seeing more from your trip.

    TFS,
    Rachel

A cracking good pose here Johnathan with great habitat inclusion, the leading front leg adds nicely also, good tips from both Gabriela & Rachel.

Hi Jonathan -- Great to see you posting and I love these type of images with the inclusion of habitat . I also like the mood in this image and lovely walking pose with that raised leg . agree with the colour cast , should be an easy fix for you but all in all a lovely Moose scape . TFS and wish to see some more from your trip .

    Hi Jonathan

Wonderful animal and composition - f5.6 works really well - I really like the bg colours and the blend

I can see blue in the black on the animal which is quite common - but only you know the light on the day - and how far to push the tone back to black as blending with the bg is a natural feature

Look forward to seeing more images from your trip

Thanks for the feedback everyone i agree with your comments, so often I become torn between trying to capture the scene as I recall it and how it may be best rendered. I have made a repost based on your comments, I hope you prefer it ( I appreciate the coat is dark but there is detail there- hope you agree!)

Hi, definitely blue cast has vanished from the subject but then if it was an early morning / late evening scene then that coolness has disappeared from your RP , i would have opted for selectively adjusting the blueish cast . But it is all subjective and for me the original scene with the colour of the subject from your RP works the best .

Lovely scene and earthy colours here Jonathan.
I agree with the critiques offered above. Your repost is nice, just needs to be rotated for the horizon (your OP was fine in that respect)?
