    This guy happened to be surveying a tiny Amazonian village in late afternoon light, but the species is so widespread that it could have been almost anywhere in South America or the southern half of North America. Large crop.

    D7200, 500f4 + 1.4 TC, ISO 800, 1/2000s @ f/7.1 manual.

    Hi Bill, I really like this one so much detail in the head just amazing, the eye pops, I have not seen one in this area mainly Turkey Vultures this makes a nice change from what I get to see. Thank you for sharing.

    Thanks Brian. Central NJ where I live is the northernmost tip of the range of the Black Vulture. We have many more of the ubiquitous Turkey Vultures. It is interesting to watch one or two Black Vultures, which have no sense of smell, tagging along with a group of Turkey Vultures with better olfactory abilities, hoping the TV's will lead them to lunch.

    TVs smell, BVs follow :) I like how you can see those little bristles on his head. Such an ugly bird, but without 'em we'd be awash in road kill.

    These birds look like they belong to another age perhaps prehistoric ,not pretty but you have caught it very well Bill.
