    Default White-crowned Sparrow.

I went up to Algonquin Park with a buddy the other day in the hopes of photographing either a moose (almost guaranteed), or a fox (50/50 chance), or perhaps a marten (fat chance at this time of year). Saw none of those, but some birds did step up to provide ample opportunities, including a Spruce Grouse very early in the morning (photo coming soon!). Plus the scenery is at peak fall colours so everywhere was a deluge of autumnal colours.

Anyhow, this White-crowned Sparrow was busy picking berries off this low tree. I carefully worked my way into place for a better angle and for a better background as it pulled on the berries. I was surprised it stayed on so long and allowed me to slowly do so. Here it took a glimpse at me - it knew full well I was there...

Canon 7DII + 5500mm f/4 II, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/320s., f/4, ISO 1600, handheld, natural light, FF, some highlights recovery on the middle stripe.

Beautiful bird Daniel, I have never seen any native US birds and many of the birds on this forum are just new to me, so it is great to see them.

I do believe that this bird, the White Crowned Sparrow, is a very rare vagrant to the UK being sometimes blown across the Atlantic

The nearest (looking) that I have seen is probably the Cape Sparrow .....

    Hi Daniel,
As always the IQ is excellent.Great light and BG.
I find the red stems really pull the eye away from the sparrow.
I could see this as a square comp ( I know I am one of the very few that likes a square comp !) but I think it would work well here,
    Gail

Daniel I agree with Gail and must admit I can not see a major problem with a square composition ,think the bird itself looks excellent with lovely natural feather detail.
