    Default Black Winged Stilt

    Black Winged Stilt (Himantopus leucocephalus)

This species has a very large geographic range and can be seen in many parts of the world - taken on the mud flats, (Yatsu-higata), in a backwater of Tokyo Bay - It appeared polluted but when the tide went out there were millions of molluscs ..... the mud flats were black and I am not sure if that is not oil on the birds legs.

(related to the [H.h. mexicanus] Black necked Stilt which is a sub species that is seen in the US etc.)

I've added the name in Japanese just for amusement

    HH - D750 + 300mm f4 PF VR + 1,4TC - 1/800th sec - ISO 400 - f6,3 - +1/3EV

(the Nikon 300mm f4 PF is a really handy lens - small, almost pocketable, light, takes the 3 Nikon TCs well and good as a "walk about" and for travel)

    C & C really appreciated

Hi Bill, was this in good light?just the colour of the water makes me ask the question, nice detail on the bird itself.Amazing that the lens can take 3 converters, sounds very interesting especially when traveling.

Thanks Keith, as you can see I am new on here so will probably post quite a few images to solicit advice

this thread should help with the light and colours on the day - fine drizzle at times, quite dark, but the water had an almost reflective quality which maybe I have emphasised in PP

Yep the relatively new Nikon 300mm f4 PF VR is a great walk about and travel lens - small, light and great IQ for what it is ....... it is "pocketable" for a long lens ...... I am looking for a portable hood .....the one that is flat which will make it even more "travel friendly"
The older 300mm f4 AF-S lens is a classic and was OK with the TC 1,4 but not the other two

The PF is good for BIF's with the 1,7TC
