    Default More Marmots ....

    Attached Images Attached Images

Hello folks i will go on with my little friends ....
It is all about the right timing and right kit .... at times , to get the shots you want .
In this case i lost ... as i had to make a compromise in PP to get this done . I wished i had both marmots in the frame , i mean fully and a bit of space around , but i had the 500 on the cam and no chance to change to the other kit . The other half was lying some 20 meters away in the grass .And the Marmots just made their fun quickly ....
In another scenario it was other way round ... short lens and animals further way ...
So i did not get the perfect shot i wanted , anyway it was great fun to watch them .

    Canon EOS 1Dx
    EF 500 IS L
    Tripod

    f 10 ; Iso 2000 ; 1/2000 sec

Processed with DPP 4 and PS CC ; cropped to 60 % of FF to get a decent looking crop . shot as landscape

Thanks for watching and commenting to my last posting

    Cheers Andreas

Hi Andreas -- What a beautiful moment here , excellent techs as well , great choice of dof . I really am enjoying this !!
It would have certainly been better had you got them completely in the frame but that is another thing . But the details , sharpness and quality that you have got here obviously the moment also makes up for the framing . And did I forgot to mention the beautiful light !

Enjoyed it thoroughly , TFS !

Hi Andreas - Great moment captured. Nice tones and colors. I'm curious where the FP was as the paw looks sharper than the heads. We've all been there with the wrong lens at the wrong time and no time to change or the other camera body out of reach when a special moment arises.

    TFS,
    Rachel

Lovely light and comp with this pair Andreas, the old prime lens dilemma...................yes, we've all been caught out here before and will pay to have your shorter zoom on your waist in future.

It is odd that @ f/10 I would have thought both heads would have been equally as sharp as their bodies?

BTW, who is Lietschi? I get the Lie part but the tschi is a mystery?

    TFS

    Hello Andreas,

Awesome capture of those Marmots, those rich colours are stunning.

Love the defiant pose from those two chaps and I quite like the composition as is (I personally do not feel the need for more space around them).

What makes this image for me is the POV - helps one perceive the subjects larger than they are and adds to the dramatic content of the scene.

I would be super pleased to have this in my folders, my friend:)

    Warmest regards,
    Gabriela Plesea

What an awesome shot Andreas! I like the tight framing and the wonderful details and colours. Great interaction superbly captured.

I like the way its framed Andreas, I don't think that having the full bodies own the shot would have been beneficial, as it would have taken the eye away from the 'action area', i.e. the heads.

Techs and processing as good as ever - good to see you back on here - hope the Guzzi did you proud!

Hi Andreas, never seen marmot fighting before, so thank you. Your techs are excellent as both of them are sharp and in good focus. Too bad about the crop, but looks like you have done your best. Love the details on the fur and head as well as the paws. Loi

Thanks so much folks , for your kind comments , much appreciated .
Rachel FP was right of the paws .. thinking F 10 would be enough to get everything into DOF ... a slight fall off happened . I bet it is coming from shooting with Case 6 AF setting , where the AF is more jumping back and forth . Or the head movement caused a slight motion blur .
Marc - my nickname since 1978

Mike - yes the Guzzi is serving me and my needs very very well

Thanks again to all of you , Cheers Andreas

Such a fun shot and I think you did well - not being able to gauge this against a full-body version of the marmots but I like the detail and the intensity the close angle afforded you.
Interesting thoughts on the aperture, I would also have thought f10 would be a good call.
