This was one of the most interesting, awesome, insane sightings I've ever had on safari.
Not going to rehash the whole story here, but you can read the whole account (with more pics) here:

Not the best photo, and a bit of a crop as it happened at a fair distance, but being up a slope we could see it all play out.

Hi Morkel -- Absolutely fascinating stuff , read the whole story and the last image of the lioness roaring sums it up well , the best image for me in the sequence . Also the the two leopards standing injured facing each other is also a remarkable image . A rare sighting indeed , so it is better to enjoy the moment and don't discuss the quality aspect here but one ting in this image which is so amazing is the look on the leopards face , looks like he was trying to scare the lioness rather getting bogged down by her .

I am sure Gabriela will be delighted if you would share the whole story on the story sequence forum .

    TFS !

Hi Morkel what a great story , extremely exciting i guess .
This image illustrates it quite well , even if not the perfect one .
Agree with Haseeb that you should post this in the Sequence forum , you could split it in two parts to get all the stuff in .
And you might make Gabriela very happy !!!

TFS this great story ... Andreas

A fabulous and very opportune moment well documented Morkel, what a scene to witness!

I gather most were with the 400, or did you switch to a zoom?

    Hello Morkel,

I hope you took note of the comments above, most of them include my name and a certain Forum you have not visited in a while

Back to your image, this is one awesome sighting - I so wish I was there to witness the clash between those two. My eyes are drawn to the expression you captured from the leopard - dilated pupils showing fear and aggression, and those ears flat against the head, typical of a feline defending itself. The lioness looks confident and ready to pounce, oh yes, this is one scene that calls for further investigation, so I am off to check that link you've given us above

Well seen and captured Morkel, such a pleasure to view - thank you so much for sharing.

    Have a wonderful week-end,
    Gabriela Plesea

I normally read this forum on my phone due to various reasons, but never comment until I see shots on a proper screen. As soon as I saw this and read the link, I new this needed to go into story sequences - and it looks like I'm not the only one!

I do particularly like this frame with the eyes of the leopard showing through the grasses and it's spot obvious whats going on, but the full drama really comes through with the full story and several shots.

Nice work capturing this as I imagine it would have been all to easy just too sit and watch the story unfold.

    Mike

    Thanks folks!
Gabriela, I will try and post the story sometime. For now, preparing to head to Namibia for 3 weeks :)
