This was taken in the spring in my backyard. I had a set up but sometimes the birds came real close on my deck, this is one of those times.

They are beautiful birds. Great portrait shot with perfect focus on a clear eye. I got a similar shot this spring when I looked out the window and dropped whatever I was doing to grab my camera.

Hi Jim, love the inquisitive pose, and you certainly nailed the overall exposure on all the colours. The finer plumage detail shows up nicely, sharp where it counts, and a nice clean BG.

Great portrait, Jim. Beautiful colors and super detail. I've only had these guys come to my feeder maybe three times in 40 years, but surprise -- I had a cute juvie show up this morning. Alas no shot of him.

Neat close-up. A small detail that I really like is the pink feathers creeping up into the black throat. Well composed. The fill-flash looks natural. Did you clone out the flash's reflection in the eye?

Thanks everyone for the kind comments and suggestions. Daniel I did clone out the flash spot in the eye. I should have mentioned that when I posted it, sorry for the omission.
