Hello all a longer time ago that i posted a frame or commented .
Just got back from a great motorbiking trip to the Italian Alps ... i very much enjoyed the 10 days ...lovely mountain scenery and a lot of gorgeous bends in the road to push my Moto Guzzi through
Well it was quite cold when i crossed the pass roads at 2200 m , but was very warm down in the valleys .
I stayed close to Meran / Bozen .
I took my gear with me ... but it stayed in the hotel
Got the idea of shooting some Marmots .... but from the motorbike .... difficult
So i asked a local wildlife photographer and some alpine hut owners if there is an option for shooting them as easy as in Austria at the Grossglockner .... answer was well ... maybe .
I tried .... but no success .I was not willing to work like Steve did in Switzerland .
I did some research of options on my way home .... Grossglockner area .. no option as temperature on that altitude has already dropped down to 0 degrees .
But i found another area , that looked promising .
Finally i went to Filzmoos in Austria and spent one day at a special place with habituated Marmots .
Was easy access and Marmots not shy as long as you keep half way slow and quiet .
So here you go ... my 5000th post

Hi Andreas - Welcome back and glad you had a good time. Nice to see you posting, it has been too infrequent lately. Congrats on your 5000th post! I always appreciate your input and technical take on processing. Great close up of the marmot with good dof. It does look a bit oversharpened to me though.
TFS and looking forward to the next 5000 posts!
Rachel
Hi Andreas, welcome back and congrats on the posting, how long to 10k???
Yep they are fun, but the ones I had were in own areas with larger raptors flying about, so surprised yours were not in a similar position, good to know they were cooperative.
Looks good, but I feel it's a tad more of a frame filler. I think being slightly smaller in frame would help and not detract from the original capture, having a bit more below too. Being so close I think a bit more DoF wouldn't have hurt looking at eye to nose, (just my take), but it's with the MKIV, so far less forgiving to the MK2 - you really need to buy one and loose the MKIV, but keep the MK1.
Sounds like a great trip you had, Andreas! Welcome back indeed.
I like this, doesn't need more space here as it's all about the details for me. Good use of dappled light as well.
Looking forward to more regular participation mein freund!
Hi folks thanks so much for your kind comments , as always much appreciated .
Will try to visit on a more regular basis ...
Rachel i think sharpening is ok ... but i could reduce a fraction the white fringe to give it a softer look .
Steve - agree on the DOF , the crop is just only from left hand side , no more room on the bottom .I agree on the MK IV ..... but the 1Dx II is just sitting under my butt and is called Moto Guzzi V 7 II Racer . Not all possible at times ....
Mike - agree that i have taste ... .. in parts , but the Guzzi is a real bummer .
Haseeb if i have helped you in the past ... then i did with pleasure .
Morkel i will try .... but no guarantee as photography is not that much important at times right now .
But i missed this thing here .... for all what it stands for . A good place to share and learn
Hi Andreas, first up congratulations on the 500th post, second on this,I feel like i'm in marmot heaven at the mo with them popping up all over. Andreas the dappled light is just fabulous you really have made the best of this, for me the sharpness doesn't seem over done, but i'm not the best judge of that. It's a lovely capture Andreas I like the crop, the detail in his face is superb.
