    Default Timbavati Pangolin

I thought before this month's theme ended I would post another image of a pangolin. As the title says, this one was taken in the Timbavati Game Reserve. Again, we were able to approach on foot and this one seemed less concerned about people around, perhaps because of the brush and less open space in its habitat. I was able to lay down though and shoot through the twigs for this one.

    C&C welcome and appreciated. Thanks,

Hi Rachel, one very and extremely rare encounter so top marks to you and your guide in spotting it.

I think the opportunity of laying down has created a perfect PoV and I like the fact it's off centre. Head slightly raise likewise the front leg too, is very nice. I also feel your timing looks spot on, avoiding the surrounding vegetation.

I'm not going to repeat myself about SS, but you know I'm right as per my initial thought on another image and was found to be right on viewing the raw. DoF looks spot on, but I would use some Curves adj to pull back some more tone & detail in the top part of the body, it's all there you just need to tease more out to help things more, it does provide more definition.

One I would love to photograph one day.

I am so happy for you that you got the chance to see and photograph one of this phenomenal creatures ....thumbs up !!!
Love the perfect low POV and the head on view .Good that you have no disturbing twigs in front .
Like the overall soft color and nice tones .... but i have to agree with Steve regarding the 1/4 tones in the subject .
Good work in the field .

    Dearest Rachel,

I am delighted you had this elusive character foraging in front of you so unconcerned - what joy it must have been to photograph him!

POV is great, I just hope no ticks climbed on you when lying down. Right now I am nursing a number of tick bites- great discomfort, despite a mix of cortisone, antihistamine and anaesthetic creams:)

I am truly happy for you to have such an opportunity. I love the way he blends with the environment and his concentrated stare, also raised paw suggesting movement.

Lovely detail, very well processed overall. Interesting what a tiny Curve adjustment can do, as per Steve's suggestion?

Superb capture, thank you so much for sharing,

    Warmest regards,
    Gabriela Plesea

Hi Rachel -- Love to see this creature some day , and congrats on getting it so relaxed with nice details and sharpness .

It would be very kind of you if you do a RP based on Steve's suggestion , would like to see what difference it makes to the image .

This is a killer perspective and love the composition Rachel. Soft light helped here, but you could put some more midtone punch into the subject to pop the scales.
A very rare sighting especially for the Greater Kruger area!

Wonderful image Rachel. Love the low angle, the pose, the clearly visible head and eye. !
