Default Hunter in the Sky (Northern Hawk Owl)

This image was captured on a beautiful clear winter day. The snow reflected the light up to illuminate the underside of the wings. What I thought would be harsh lighting actually worked out very nicely. It probably helped that during winter the sun is at a lower angle and therefore not as harsh.

    Here are the specifics:
    Canon EOS 20D
    Canon 100-400IS Hand-held (170mm range)
    ISO 400
    1/2500
    f6.3

    Thanks,

The low angle of the sun and snow on the ground really help. I like the inquisitive look. It would have been great to see the underside of the left wing and the sky looks a bit oversaturated on my monitor, easy to fix.

Good angle and pose. I don't mind the wing differences.

    Hi Jake,

I'm sooo jealous, never been close to one of those :(

Agree on Axel's comments, and will be looking forward for more.
