The Black-rumped Flameback (Dinopium benghalense), also known as the Lesser Golden-backed Woodpecker or Lesser Goldenback, is a woodpecker found widely distributed in the Indian Subcontinent. It is one of the few woodpeckers that are seen in urban areas. It has a characteristic rattling-whinnying call and an undulating flight. It is the only golden-backed woodpecker with a black throat and black rump.

Hi Harikamal, lovely striking colours on the Woodpecker, and we have a good view of his left foot. I like how the Woodpecker is posed against the clean BG. Was the perch naturally at that angle?

A striking woodpecker. Excellent green BG, albeit a bit bright in the lower half. I like how the bird is gripping the tree. I think having pointed your lens an inch higher and an inch to your left would have strengthened the comp. Ideally you would have had a gap between the bill tip and the tree. Still a neat image of a species we do not often see here on BPN.

The perch was a Y shaped trunk placed near a feeder adjacent to an open field.
