    Common Bronzewing Pigeon (Phaps chalcoptera)
    NSW, Australia

    Canon EOS 7D II | Canon 100-400 f4.5-5.6 II & 1.4x TC III @560mm | Handheld, manual exposure
1/250 f/8 ISO 640 | Built in flash, evaluative metering

One of the earlier shots I took with this set up I wanted to get in nice and close and test the lens performance. Still loving the sharpness and sub-meter minimum focusing distance.

A kaliedoscope of colour Matthew, nicely done. They are difficult birds to get close too.

Hi Matt, certainly a contender for this months theme. Lots of colours to look at, and I like the different layers of feathers.

I went to a hotel in Las Vegas a few months ago and the hallways were done in large prints of closeups of butterfly wings. Very striking and colorful. This one belongs in that same hotel. Very nice!

Thanks David, my thoughts exactly about the butterfly wings. I entered this image in the Australian Geographic nature photographer of the year competition with the following script "The spectrum on the common bronzewing pigeon's wing reminds me of the pigmented scales on a butterfly" My only wish is that it was on the wall of the hotel
