This was taken a week ago on an overcast morning. I often see dowitchers, godwits or curlews in this area, but seldom yellowlegs (I think I've got it ID'd right), so I was really pleased to get one of these. I doubt they are uncommon, but for me they are. I'm still experimenting with the 2x extension with this lens and wonder what the experts think of the result. What do you think? And all other C&Cs are, of course, welcomed. The image was cropped 50%, leveled and sharpened . . .
The primary problem I found with this photo is that it's kind of difficult to separate the bird from the background. Before clicking on the thread, I couldn't see the bird in that smaller photo at all :) Of course I can tell the bird from its background, I just wish it were shot with a better one :D Perhaps a even lower point of view, a different angle of light, or another background could help ??

Hi Wendell That 2X combo is usable but remember you are getting lots of magnification .... 600 mm counting the camera crop factor.!!!! Something to be used on a sturdy tripod !!! Might have some motion blur on this image !!!
For this little guys getting low is a must, they just don't look right when photographed from a high angle. It throws the bg oof giving a pleasing look. I also try making my way close to the bird to minimize the crop. Also would like to see a better head angle and the bird not working away form your position.
btw another bonus for laying flat on the ground is the birds will approach you. Stay still and you will be pleasantly surprised !!!
