    Default Jack(al) in the box!

    Attached Images Attached Images

A black-backed jackal fights off a flock of white-backed vultures for the remains of a baby springbok.
In all my years of travelling to Africa I've never seen such a determined jackal jump so high in a battle for food, a veritable jack-in-the-box ......an amazing and comical scene to witness!
Some 10 mins later he emerged victorious, running off with the remains of the carcass.

    Cheers

Shooting @ ISO180, the BG "noise" your seeing is more likely a touch of heat haze.

A fabulous frame, Marc! So well timed and framed!
I love the typical earthy Kalahari colours - and yes heat haze is a reality in those parts of the world, in the summer often from 8am already.

Hi Marc - great timing. Could easily be posted in Avian too. Great colors and sharpness. Heat and what looks like a bit harsher light handled well.

    TFS,
    Rachel

Nice shot i like how it is cropped. Really like how the jackal is in the middle of the vultures.

Great timing Marc, shots like this are so much more interesting (IMHO) than portraits, shows off the day to day life struggles well.
