This guy was so intent on getting his breakfast that he paid no attention to me. I was behind some bushes but much closer than a Blue Heron will usually tolerate. I shot a series of him feeding. Here's just one.

    Shot with a Tamron 70-300 @ 209mm on a Canon 7DII. 1/1600 @ f8. ISO 5000

There are some nice things about this image. The rich greens of the water, the prey item, the ripples in the water and a nice intimate view of the bird.

However, there are many parts of this shot that could use improving. First off the focus seems to be on the body of the bird and not the head. With birds you always want the focus to be on the face and eye.

Also the bird is very tight in the frame. For such a huge bird I think it would be best to have some more room for the bird to look into

The bird is not facing us and is facing away. This is far from ideal for bird photography

Image is dark. Could use to have the exposure brought up

When you have a bird in the water and the legs are hidden, most would prefer to leave room in the frame for their "virtual" legs. Again you are very tight here.

Lovely green background and nice behavior captured. Would have liked to see a wide crop.
