    Default Bufflehead

I'm not usually one for flight shots. I find them to be really difficult with my current camera (30D) on anything other than a blue sky BG. But after shooting with a few of the best flight shooters around I wanted to give it a bit more of an effort. Here's one from a few days ago at a local lagoon.

I just bought the new 40D which will hopefully hold focus on non-sky BG's a bit better than the 30D??

    Cheers!

    Hi Glenn,
Very nice shot. Cool pose and composition IMO, but it looks a bit flat. A bit more contrast would help I think.

Hey Glenn, You sure chose a challenging subject for your flight shot attempt.
I looked at this one for a while and came to the conclusion that it is very good. The techs look spot on and you did very well to freeze this speedy little guy at 1/640th:eek:
Curious, were you using 1 spot center focus? I don't own a 40D but from what I have heard it is much better at tracking and locking than the 30D.

Great landing pose, it seems the 40D works well. Buffleheads are extremely skittish around here. I agree regarding contrast and a catchlight would have been nice, too. :)

your 30D did well on this subject! I like it a lot. I am also interested in the 40D capabilities. Do you have a bot space left for the left bottom corner?

Great job catching a fantastic pose !

I think I'd prefer a little looser crop with a bit more room at top,
    right, and bottom.

You're off to a flying start my friend! These guys move very quick. Very nice as presented. Just a touch to much flash me thinks. :)
