    My first post here

Hi everyone *looks around nerviously*

First let me say a few things about me and my photography. I've been seriously persueing photography for a year. In that year I've done the footwork to learn my camera and it's functions. *thanks Tim*
And I've read bryan petersons Understanding Exposure from front to back twice. :o

I looked around at some of your pictures and I want so much to take pictures like that. I read some of the tutorials from Art Morris *you rock* and I think I'm ready to post this picture now.

I didn't look to see what kind of bird this is yet but I need gentle guidance as to where to look.

And just so you know for whatever it's worth, I do all this while waiting for my back surgery. *so getting low is hard to do for me*

    Tear it up!!!!!! :D

I forgot to add the specs. Here they are.

Camera - Canon XTi, Lens -100-400 4.5-5.6L IS
    f/8 1/1000 @ 400mm

Big Welcome!!! Very nice first post (bird is English House Sparrow (male))

Great low perspective, nice head angle too! some light bits across the top I might remove.

I agree with Nonda and would like to add that I think the catch light in the eye is great.

Welcome and a very nice first post.

I like this little sparrow, it looks like he is foraging. I really like the behavioral aspects.

Hi Sharna and WELCOME aboard :D

One thing that will help your images come across the way you intend them to is to covert them to sRGB before posting. This one was in Adobe RGB which leaves it looking flat in a web browser in comparison to what you see in Photoshop.

This difference is readily noticed when not using a browser that handles color management (as far as I know, Safari is the only one that does) so folks using IE, Firefox and other browsers don't see what you intended.

Here is your image converted to sRGB with no other adjustments. To do the conversion in CS3, go EDIT>Convert to Profile> sRGB.

As for the picture itself, I'll echo those above that it is a great start with a nice environment that isn't too distracting. Keep 'em comin'

Wow! Thanks Jim. I didn't know why my picture came out so flat looking on here and so good looking in CS3.

Thank you everyone for the kind and wonderful comments. They are much appreciated.

A little off topic but Firefox 3 Beta is out now and has color management. I think they announced that the regular version will be released nest Tuesday.

    Big welcome, Sharna!!!

Hope we can help you improve your skills. For bird ID we use Sibley's Guide to Birds ( Audubon). Pretty good!

Great first post and we'll guide you all the way until you feel comfortable to post in the Main Gallery, although you may not want to leave Eager to Learn, it's a tight, loving group!

Good luck with surgery, and anything you need, PM me or Alfred :)

Hi Shama Big Welcome and glad you decided to post !!!!

First of all good luck with your upcoming surgery, I'm sure you will be running around in no time !!!

Agree with the bird's ID !!! As presented would suggest leaving more room up front since it looks a little tight, otherwise you have done well. Very good exposure, bg and great head angle !!! Will post below my suggestions !! I like it a lot !! btw one way getting around lowering yourself to the ground would be more focal length.... the longer the focal length the lesser the angle !!!!

Thank you all sooooo much. I'm a little scared about the up coming surgery *ok maybe a lot scared* but I went through neck surgery last June and it's healed nicely.
Fabs, You are such an inspiration to me. Thank you. Alfred, Thank you for your re post as well....it looks awesome too. What did you do to make room in front?
