    They may be common, but they sure do light up the landscape not only with their looks, but a very loud call. This adult was voicing his or her warning that we might want to keep our distance from their young. We listened and seemed to know the yardage we should keep. C&C welcome.

    D4S, Nikon 500mm + 1.4 TC, 1/2000s, f 6.3, ISO 2500, Gitzo tripod, Wimberley Gimbal head.

    Well done Geoffrey, love the mound of green and wildflowers in this setting. Open beak is a bonus! nice dof and BG as well! missing Iceland yet?

    Very nice Geoffrey.
    So nice that he is standing on the mound so we can see the feet.
    The best part is the little purple flowers.

    I like the habitat, colours, calling pose. Good comp too. A bit of compression artifacts around the contour of the bird as posted. Were you setup for flight with that high ISO?

    Thanks Daniel. I'm not seeing the compression artifacts. Doesn't mean their not there. Yes I was setup for flight.
