Sign of Things to Come

6D, 600mm f/4 IS II, Manual, f/8, 1/1000, ISO 1600, handheld from kayak - Cropped, processed in LR CC
I came across this single leaf adrift in the middle of a 700 acre lake recently while photographing loons (hence the 600mm). In a few short weeks it will be one of many.

Hi Ryan
Nice colour and concept. Good detail in the narrow DOF you have with the 600, especially from kayak... I would consider using a bit of NR on the top half of the image only (or reprocessing from scratch) so the colour gradients in the ripples are smoother..

Don makes a good call on the upper half of the image...alternately you could go with a pano crop for this scene as well...love the color of the leaf!

Hi Ryan & Andrew.
I too considered cropping off the upper half but i dident suggest it as I thought you would need the 3 upper to identify the grey bands as a series ripples passing by. One band of grey behind the leaf by itself may leave the viewers wondering what they grey band is.. What do you guys think??

Hi Ryan,
I like the leaf and the colors and the soft blue water. Having the ripple cut through the leaf is less than ideal...

Not sure if the horizontal water ripple works for me here. It also looks a bit gray. If it's to your ethics, Ryan, I would clone this and put it on a blue background.

I like this frame a lot more because the leaf was not cut. I would suggest cloning out the second reflection.
