This from the bird that has the longest migration of any species on the planet: up to 44,000 miles round trip between the Arctic and the Antarctic each year. That is much longer than the straight-line distance between the two points, because they zig-zag along the way, apparently to take advantage of global wind currents. It's just amazing to see these little terns in Iceland and realize that they're about to embark on such a huge trip.
