The insectivorious birds in my area really crop up on dragonflies right before the winter season starts. A bird like this might catch 5-6 of these in a mornings feed. The Phoebe caught this dragonfly, a variegated meadowhawk, in mid air and I was fortunate enough to catch her as she made her way back to her hunting perch.
This was taken a few years ago in the fall.

Thanks as always for looking and for your input. I appreciate it

Sorry I noticed that some of the BG has pixilated from downsizing. Thanks again

Dave the techs on this look very good, kind of an awkward wing position but a nice behavioral shot.

Hi David, nice hood ornament! I like the pose of the phoebe carrying prey back to a perch. The eye is so clear and draws you into the "catch." As noted, pixelation in BG... Wow, must be fun to try to capture the dragonfly slaying!

Very cool photo, Dave. I love how the bird's color blends into the BG. The dragonfly has a slightly better wing position. :D

Nice capture, David. Tough enough to catch songbirds in flight; getting him with a dragonfly is icing on the cake. And the dragonfly (at least) has a full wings up position. BG noted.

When did you nail this one, very seldom get them with prey and this one with a dragon is superb

    Thanks everyone.

Glenn, two years ago in October. We had a few players feeding down by the Redtail perch.
