    Default Cub at Sequoia

A cub climbing in a tree, Sequoia National Park. It was getting dark, but still usable? Or does it need more exposure? Name: z cub forum.jpg

Hi Paul, please can you add the exif data i.e. camera, lens, SS, F/stop, ISO etc. Is this a full frame or cropped, if so is it a large crop? By adding information both technical & some background info behind taking the image will only help feedback.

    Thanks
    Steve

Paul you caught this mischievous little chap in the act, others more knowledgeable than me will point you in the right direction but if it was mine i would expose it a bit more which I think would show more detail especially on the face.Do like this.

This was shot at 800mm, 1/400 sec, f 5.6, ISO 6400, 7D Mark II. I didn't filter it yet for noise but can do that, maybe bring up the color a bit. The noise does come out less on the actual print which would be an 8 x 10. The noise filter actually works pretty well.

Hi Paul -- A cute cub ! I think the 7D MK II is not built to handle that high iso . Is it a large crop ?

Thanks Paul. I think that the noise levels here would be unacceptable to most. And the pine needles seem a lot sharper than the cub. ISO 3200 or higher is best avoided with the 7D II.

Paul, did you lighten the image during the PP stage, as this will highlight the 'noise' even more as you are opening up the Darks & Shadows???? If you are using DPP then I strongly suggest you purchase Artie/Arash's NR PDF Guide 2016 as this will help you tackle a lot of key issues. As presented the noise is an issue and the subject is not sharp, it lacks clarity and any real definition.

I can only add that I agree with the thorough critique already given. Super cute cub and pose though!
How much of a crop is this?
