A very expressive image Norm, looks like this puffin has a lot to think about! I like the overall "moodiness" of the puffin and the BG, exposure looks terrific, well done. Isn't Machias Seal Island a unique place? There's always the anticipation of whether the trip is a go or no go and then there is always not enough time there! looking forward to more of your images, any razorbills?

A rather wistful look to this Puffin. He stands out nicely against the dark bg. Sharp and detailed where it counts, although I wouldn't have minded a little more DOF.

Thanks for the comments on this post!

Machias Seal Island is a haven for photographing Atlantic Puffins, Arctic Terns, Common and Bridled Murres, and Razorbills. But the weather is highly changeable, and it is best to book at least two days for trips to the island to ensure good results. I booked two days, and the day before my first trip was a washout for others with heavy rain. My first day featured heavy fog, although once on the island the photography was good. My second day was perfect -- partly cloudy. The day after my last trip was a bright sunny day, not the best for photographing black and white birds.

Very nice pose, Norm! Do I see a little bit of magenta cast? I am not sure. The eye really draws me in!
