I was out with Barney first thing looking for a barn owl, we waited for about an hour only to see it come down in the next field and fly off with a vole. Still all was not lost I spotted this young dog fox so I kept dead still, luckily Barney was snoozing. The fox gradually came closer each time taking a second look at me behind the tripod and camera, eventually he decided he wasn't too sure what I was so he trotted off to the hedgerow behind.

Hi Jon - Great eye contact. Did you lighten the eyes? If so, I might back off a little. Nice low pov. I am ok with the space around but I am sure some will suggest to crop tighter. Overall, the image is a little flat. I think you can punch it up a bit. I would also back off on the sharpening. I hope you have gotten your color issues sorted.

Hi Jon, a lovely encounter and I do like the space around and the stance, (checking you out). Surprised you had time to get the gear all in situ, so nice one. Personally I think the colours are good, but just looking at the chest Jon it highlights what I said to you about cross Curves, it also helps with the red coming through too. I tried variants of WB/Tint HSL, but the adjustment in Curves just addresses a lot IMHO, you can then address the other two colours if required. I would remove the dark brown object in the BKG, draws my eye.

Just watch the blacks, it just creeping up.

Thanks Rachel, happy with colours now, in the end it boiled down to two factors and I am grateful both your and Steve's input.

Have you formatted the card???? Do you not back things up, then 'mirror'?

A nice pose, and I too like the space you left around this fox, Jonathan.
I thought initially it looked too red/magenta, and Steve's comment on the chest confirmed this for me.
I agree that some midtone contrast could lift this a tad tonally.

Colours of this red Fox look fine to me Jon,did think the fur on the animals chest looks a little bit crunchy ,very nice out in the open Fox shot.

Hi Jon -- I too agree with the above comments , It is a very nice shot of the Fox with some space around makes it a good image . I think Steve has given you some good pointers regarding the colours , turns out to be helpful for others like me . Nice image though .

Nice subject isolation, good soft light, good eye contact. Amazing how much different your red fox looks than those across the pond.. Well done!

I have zero problems with the colors or the look of the image, and while I do like to give the subject some room I am curious as to why nobody has commented on the dead centered image design...

Hi Jon a very cool fox image , i like the wider view but might move the fox a bit more off centre .
Nice detail in the subject and the soft surroundings does work great .
Overall i think the colors are a bit too intense ... specially the reds and in parts magentas are creeping in , but as colors are subjective it might be me
For my taste the blacks are a bit heavy in the 1/2 and 3/4 tones in the subject , again a personal taste .

    Still a great frame

    TFS Andreas
