I like the unusual perch, soft light, pose and BG. The bird looks a bit oversharpened on my monitor. I think your ID is right.

    Axel,

Based on your feedback of many of my posts, I've begun to take a more critical look at the sharpening of my images. What part of this bird looks oversharpened to you?

The edges of the feathers mainly. It may depend on the kind of monitor, on my work monitor it would probably look perfectly fine.

My monitor isn't anything special, just the standard Dell LCD that's now about 3 years old. Only calibration I've done is look at that little strip on the bottom of the page. I think I'm getting close to point where I need reading glasses as well. Thanks for the feedback.

super image Steve......I too see the halo, but it is very minor, the strongest is around the beak.
The perch and bulk of the bird appear clean here

Hi Steve. It looks like a Brewer's or possibly a Rusty Blackbird to me. I like the pose and the detail. To my eye, this does not look noticeably oversharpened.

Great shot, I like the pose and background.
I can't comment on sharpness, still learning that aspect of photography.

On my monitor the bird does not appear overly sharp. I'd remove one catchlight from the eye. Like the perch and the overall composition. Thanks for posting!

Thanks for the feedback and suggestions.
Dave, neat trick for the halo detection
Steve M, thanks for the leads on the ID
Doug, didn't notice the catchlight. I don't use flash so I never really look for them. Closer inspection showed it to be a cloud seperating the sunset horizon.
