From a beautiful snowy day back in February, with Loi when he was up here to enjoy winter weather. The Snowy Owl in question made some good clean jumps off fence posts for us. Most of the BG was white, but here I aligned myself to have the distant trees adding a bit of colour and depth to the image, as well as giving the small snowflakes a darker canvas to show themselves against.
Canon 7DII + 500mm f/4 II, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/3200s., f/6.3, ISO 1600, natural light, handheld, just about FF, darkened the darker tones and added a touch of contrast to punch up an otherwise dull scene (tone-wise). Owl fed.
Love the timing on this one, with the wings up bet the Snowy still staring right at you. The background interest is important, I don't think all white would have been as nice.
What the @*$# three comments? This is gorgeous and I would be stoked to have a frame like this in my portfolio. The head on stare as it launches is awesome and I like the nice details. The BG trees are perfectly OOF too. Well done
