This is a very common little Aussie honey eater. Sometimes referred to as the "Cane Toad with Wings". Also known as, soldier birds, Micky birds and Happy Family. They are extremely tenacious and will defend their territory against much bigger birds like crows and hawks. They are useful to me. They let me know when something strange, or not quite right is happening outside. Often a bird I haven't seen before.

Conditions were overcast and slight drizzle. Basic Adjustments in ACR. Hue/Sat layer on BG. Dfine ran over BG. Cropped and smart sharpened for presentation.

You got some nice birds. You had some nice BG too. I like how you chose a diagonal composition with the bird's body parallel to the perch. I would have preferred if the bird was standing in the opposite direction with its head and tail swapped but this in't bad either. The perch is weathered and authentic but a bit large for the bird, like the moss too.

From a technical point of view this image is a bit soft, especially the head and eye, that due to slow shutter speed you were using. Thee image as a magenta color cast

Thank you Arash. I don't think I could get too much more out of the 5D2. Magenta casts are the bane of my life!

5D2 isn't bad for shooting perched birds like this one. I assume you are using the old 100-400 which is a limiting lens in low light since the IS isn't as effective as newer lenses, but here you could have used ISO 3200 for a little faster SS or used a tripod. Magenta cast is easy to remove I removed it here for you

Thanks Arash. It looks better. Can you tell me how you did that? With a Hue/Sat adjustment or selective colour perhaps?

I spend the file in PS CC2015.5. Then I went to image-->adjustment--> color balance then I moved the sliders towards yellow and green. then I went to Hue/Sat selected magenta and desaturated it by 15 points. finally I slightly warmed the image the red channel

all of the above would be unnecessary if you get the WB right during RAW conversion-much easier

OMG! That does seem like a lot of work. And thank you for explaining that. I totally agree with getting it right in ACR first.

    Thanks again

Beautiful looking image Glennie. The repost looks so sweet. I love the colours and the facial expression. Eye is really 'eye' catching

    Well done

Nice one Glennie. I like the bird's pose - intent on something isn't it! My only issue is the thickness of the perch, but still not too bad. I have to admit that I like both versions equally.
