Hi Kevin nice image, it seems to be a bit on the light side, I would suggest to tone down the brightness and bring up the contrast and add maybe 10% or so to your black channel.

    I hope this helps.

    Default Question post processing

Thanks Tim I like your version better. My version was too washed out. As I do my work in Dpp.40 can I do some of my work their?
Then bring into photoshop as a Tiff to make changes to the black channel or do I need to bring into Photoshop in raw.
Or how can I make the changes to the black channel in Dpp4.0?

Nice catch Kevin, I really like the perch! Tim's RP really improves on an already nice shot.

    Hi Kevin,
I normally would have adjusted it in the raw file but you can go into Selective Color after you have converted it to a jpg or tiff
and add additional blacks if necessary, but I would just try to get you exposure a bit more on spot, you will get the hang of it in no time.
I posted what the slider looks like if you need to use it.

Kevin: Nice catch of the Green Heron. Spooky little birds, aren't they? I have about 100 pictures of them, and almost all have them partially-camouflaged in the sticks and leaves of the mangroves. Hard to get one where you get a nice background.

Agree and like Tim's RP; brightens things up. Tim, what did you see in the pic that caused you to suggest to boost the Black color? I could see the Brightness being dropped and the Contrast to bring out a little of the texture in the tree-bark, but wondered what specifically caught you eye re: adding Black ....

Andrew, Sometimes I feel if you add some black in a washed out image it has some richness to it and adds some missing depth.

Thank you for posting a lovely image Kevin. The bird is well placed in the frame and has a good pose happening. Love the colours. Tims RP has made a big difference though. The image has good from very good, to WOW.
I would not have ever thought of "selective colour" for adding blacks. I am assuming you can also take out casts with this tool? I have always tried to get it right in ACR but sometimes fail, so this is another way to skin a cat, so to speak.

Good stuff, Kevin! I also saw the lack of contrast but didn't think of adding it back the way Tim suggested. I would've gone with curves. There is always something new to learn!

Kevin...Nice sharply composed image and you did a great job blurring out the bg with the long lense and the 6.3 aperture. Photoshop by Tim brought the image to life. Often its the processing that makes an image sing so take your time and learn processing. It can seem confusing but just hang in there and keep at it....its worth it!

Hey ho if at first one doesn't succeed try again. I managed to delete my own post Kevin

Kevin this is stunning I really like it,I like tim's repost even more but you did all the ground work and have my sincere congratulations! It's a stunning bird i'm not terribly familiar with and the way you have caught him is just beautiful,I love the bkg too, it so sets him or her off. Kevin I'm only processing in dpp4 myself ps is just a dream at this time,so I can't help much on processing,if I could I'd be investigating a localised adjustment to his perch ,it's a bit bright for me and I also feel there might be more detail to be had if teh highlights aren't blown, but I don't know this.
Kevin it's a wonderful image I can't tell you how much I like it,maybe as your skills progress you can come back to this I think it's wonderful and worth banking for later .

take care cheers for sharing this

    Stu
