What's not to like with that spectacular dorsal view? And I love the over the shoulder look back right at you. How large a crop?

Will, you are getting some terrific shots of these kites. This one is no exception! It seems he is looking right at you.

    Beautiful!

Very nice indeed Will. If it were mine I would reduce the crop slightly I think the detail would improve, other than that excellent.
I am looking at the sky, I am not sure if I am seeing some processing artifact - magenta/purple and soft greens?

Jon, I don't think that is the sky you are seeing. Perhaps a hillside that meets a very pale sky. It does make me think about disecting lines though. But I like it very much, as posted!

a really good shot form this bird of prey,
the pose is very good, you have captured the right moment.
the background with the most partial forest( or hills ?) and the littly piece of grey sky is looking good for me.

Thanks for looking, much appreciated. Hi Artie, this is about a third size of the original image. Hi Jon, the BG is a hillside covered in bushes and trees.

    Will:

Excellent pose, exposure, details. Agree about just a bit looser.

    Congrats

Thanks Bill. To be frank, I just don't get the big crops that wind up with the bird somewhat stuffed in the frame. Aside from being overbearing image quality suffers a lot. If you care to post a JPEG that represents the RAW I will take a crack at a crop :)

    Hey Will,

Check out my similar comments on large crops in Joe's post here. They are becoming epidemic!

What a great looking pose William and I really like the mottled BG too. Nice details and colors captured.
The first thing I noticed, after the nice pose and details, is the comp is to tight, at least for me. The other thing is the sky in the BG detracts a bit, but not to bad.
In this re-post I did what I would have done if this were my image. The comp is loosened up a fair amount, which as mentioned by Artie, will preserve the details. I also decided to clone out the sky, but with the limited pixels, it only gives you an idea of what you can do with the RAW file. Nice frame.

Thanks Will, You could even go a bit wider than David did. And thanks David. Nice job eliminating the sky.

Thanks Will. When I did that in Wales a zillion years ago with Dave Tipling in Wales, we went twice. Each day was so foggy that you could not see your hand in front of your face...

Well done on the reprocessing Dave, this is one of your best Kite shots Will, the wing position and tail flare really add to the spectacular look back.
