The ocean isn't often calm where I live, so I was pleased to be able to get a tranquil shot of an Atlantic Puffin on the water on a nice day while out studying tern nesting sites for a research project. This was taken from a zodiac off the coast of Nova Scotia, Canada, handheld with a bit of support from the side of the boat.

looks good Simon, I like the low angle and the calm water. good light too. The puffin can use a bit more sharpening and the whites look a bit grey on my screen, I'd adjust the white point

Excellent critique by Arash above. Love the still water and the perfectly square to the sensor pose. As the eyes of puffins and gannets are so deep-set it is a good plan to lighten the irises of both of these species to make them look more natural and bring the image to life. As far as the WHITEs, I would advice making sure that they are in the mid-230s for the RAW conversion. Some folks prefer them in the mid-240s.

Great advice guys. Here's a redo with tweaks to whites, sharpening and eyes.

This is a very appealing image Simon! Hard to believe that is the ocean. The tiny ripples in front of the chest are superb. Good job taking the advice and going for it.
