This cutie was checking out our feeders. I'm wondering if it is a juvenile? It looks so freshly minted.

Canon 1DX2, 100-400 II + 1.4X III at 560mm, ISO 3200, f/10, 1/200 sec. Foggy morning. Exposure down 0.8 and Shadows lifted just a bit in LR. Into PS for some cloning on the perch. NR on BG, but hardly needed. A tweak of sharpening on the bird to further enhance the fern-like, well-defined feathers. (They were about as sharp as could be in the raw file.) Cropped to 25% of the original frame, as I was set up for larger birds.

The edge of the wing looks like a cutout but it hasn't been touched. The file was that sharp.

Lovely image Diane. You captured the bird in a great pose. The colours throughout the image blend well. Can I see motion blur? on the head and chest areas..

Don't think so -- here's a 100%. Remember, the OP is already cropped to 25% of the original frame. Not bad for ISO 3200, I think.

The image I commented on was another, it was a juve bird, different pose, with a shutter speed of 1/200.

did you post another one. This one looks great, love the detail and the colours throughout fit well

Thanks! As soon as I posted I scrolled up and saw I had put in the wrong image -- one of a nuthatch. I went right back in and changed it but you must have come across it just before I got it fixed.

For such a huge crop and ISO the image quality has held up very well. Details are nice and the background is as well. I do find the bird to be a bit flat. Probably due to the fog but perhaps more contrast or upping the midtones would help set the bird off as well. If you have more room I would prefer more room on the right for the bird to look into. Maybe take some off of the left side and add it to the right side.

Isaac, two good points. I agree. I tend to go on the flat side with images, and did feel the bird was too centered after see it here. Will fix both issues.

Very nice indeed, a flat image - not so sure but I have noted that some of my recent posts have been perceived as a little flat! I like the colours and the definition, I haven't seen one of these birds but it is not unlike some of our chicks and the colouration from that standpoint looks ok to me.

How beautiful Diane! Gorgeous BG and of course, the bird is brilliant. How sharp is that! Amazing. I think with Isaac's composition idea may work very well.
