Boy you got lucky with your "window" here, and I love seeing the setting sun in the eye. My only wish, and probably yours too, would have been for no grass across the beak. You did a great job with obviously difficult situation.
Ditto the above on the offending grass. Great bird and light. Was it on a nest? I'd love to see a wider version.

thank you all very much for your comments and useful hints,
yes i am also not really satisfied with the grass.
but here is the full version, direct from the raw file, nothing cropped. exif are inside (the same like the image above, of course), the owl is sitting in the middle because of f8 with 1200mm, only the center af point works, you all know.
The SEO was not sitting on a nest, but was sitting near/on a mice depot. it is an winter picture, ok no snow to show, but it was cold.

Thanks Eric, No excuses on putting the owl dead center; learn to use rear focus or at least One-Shot AF. Each allows you to re-compose after focusing...
Below is my suggested crop. I am at a loss as to why folks love to crop so tightly...

Thx Arthur, you are totally right.
The only thing i could say : i was very excited about the owl sitting there, the only thing i was thinking about: don`t miss the start, don`t fly too early away
so i was not thinking about one shot and image composing in this moment.
PS: your crop suggestion seems to be the right one.
