    Default Nursing Red Doggie

They call bison calves "red doggies." There were loads of them in the herds in Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks. Here one nursed on a ridge above the road. I liked that the calf's eye was visible at this angle and waited for the mom to turn her head. Taken at about 6:30 p.m.

HI Rachel -- Nice moment captured ! Techs and PP all look good as usual . As far as the settings are concerned I didnt liked the FG in particular, it is just not appealing me .

BTW at what time the sunsets ? looks very bright at 6:30 pm .

Haseeb - Thanks, this was a day or two after the Summer Solstice so the sun didn't set until 9:30 or so.

Hi Rachel, nice choice of subject and again, something different.

The angle works well as you see both eyes and I like the way the FG slops. Good DoF & clarity.

A cool subject and moment, Rachel! I love the diagonal slope offset with the OOF land behind.
If anything I would try to run a lumo mask to reduce overall bright brights, specifically targeting the BG so as to make the subject pop a tad more?

The cow and calf stand out beautifully - gorgeous colours and details, a fine image. I am thinking it is the eyes that are , well, so simply eye catching, that is what makes the image so appealing.

Yes a nice moment captured. Light at 3 hours before sunset is a bit harsh of course.. Bison look pretty rough at this time of year while shedding out. Bison rut will be starting in the park about now and the bison are at their prime and look magnificent. Would have been over the top with just a bit of a head turn from the mom... Love the red doggies they're so much fun to work with.

Thanks Dale. I didn't realize the rut started this early.
