We have a number of little brown fellas here in blighty that look very similar, this guy does have dark legs,so probably is a chiff chaff, calls give id away but he was silent. I'd been out at dawn doing the rounds, here, close to home. Although I did get some chances little had worked out for me,so i'm tracking the last hedge back to our house when I meet this wonderful little guy. He's found something he likes in the blackthorn flowers, aphid maybe and is **** bent on exploring that chance. I suppose I was with him for 1/2 an hour,it was just so special. Normally these guys would be off away in a flash, but this chap kept coming back for a look at the clicky thing meandering down the hedge behind him.

This is for a friend that helps me with all this photography lark,he said recently it doesn't need to be exotic, have fun....so this is me doing just that as a thankyou with a little plain brown bird. A little plain brown bird that actually made my day. I'm not in a hide i'm just walking a hedge but that special bit where a bird that isn't baited isn't really tame is here in this frame,he came back to see me.

Within this frame is why I want to take pictures of wildlife :every now and then a beastie comes to see me . There is a joy in that I'll never be able to put into words.

Guys i'm learning I haven't posted here much I need to upgrade my computer to have PS,which can't happen quite yet,so this is processed in dpp4 a crop for comp. My shutter is really high ,but he was darting about all over the place really quickly so I kept it that way in the hope of freezing a moment, now i'd probably have dropped the shutter slightly and hence the iso.

Hi Stu, nice shot, only one nit is that the whites look a little dirty to me.
And I'm not sure why you were shooting at such hi shutter speed and high iso, really no need for it.

Hi Tim thanks so much for the reply,I guess the answer as to why the Ss was so high is inexperiencee. He(she ) was moving about so fast I was trying to cover the bases and get something that was sharp,in time, and I guess gradually ,this will get honed. The whites are probably also down to lack of experience in processing as well, but duly noted.
cheers Tim your reply will no doubt help me move forwards

    many thanks

Stu, well caught not ideal but these rarely are ideally perched so I can identify precisely with your commentary. As Tim mentioned not need for such a high shutter speed may 1/1600 would have been plenty. Normally I would suggest a smaller aperture but in this particular instance it think it was wise to trow out of focus the surrounding leaves and blossoms. His curious pose is good. The walks you describe are similar to mine when out with Barney - sooner or later you will get that clean shot you are hoping for especially now the chicks have left/are leaving the nest as they are a little less timid.
(Chiffchaff would be my guess - you have to check the wings feathers to be certain - legs are a good but not infallible guide)

Hiya John thanks so much for this reply,do admire your work mate!! I guess I might have something more "classically orientated" but I'm such a softy that these moments will always be the one's I'll treasure a chiff chaff or other( hence title, i'm very unsure John cheers for that note) coming towards one is no common thing. Would 1/1600 be enough to freeze wings John ,that was really what I was trying for as it flitted about?

I used to walk with a german pointer (short hair) John, she's sadly passed,it was hard for me I haven't had another since so hard. A dog, if at one with what is going on, can be such a marvel, yes both gun dogs with that built in awareness. At's so cool being warned way before a human has any knowledge,Amba would do that.

    many thanks

Ha a no Keith I think they pick me. This was really out of character Keith I think he just felt sorry for me ,I was walking back from spending 30mins right on a hare dozing when she woke she gave me a chance of something i'll never get again I'd lay odds on it. I had it in frame and went OMG instead of pressing the shutter .......one day mate.
That said I do pick hard deer Keith, and at every turn they have out foxed me of late. Wow they are skittish right now while the fawns are coming

    thanks buddy

I love the bird, the stare, the framing, and the flowers. And I am fine with the SS.

Hiya artie, wow thank you. artie i hope your health is going well,i'm so so busy. I saw a bit on your blog, wish I could be there more such a mine of info, but just quick and off topic ,I do hope you are good and fairing well !!
Thanks this was just special for me, she did this several times but as you can imagine few images I captured didn't have branches in unconvenient places! Such enchanting behaviour artie the reason I love this is within that, adding a camera and being able to actually show is so cool,he he I'm hopeless. All the time it's just a little brown guy who makes me smile as a picture, maybe someone else too...I like that. ahh the little things

artie I really have been so busy of late i'd meant to contact you privately add in i'm such a scatterbrain, But hey ho, I'll nick it in here :mate thanks for this forum.I have much to learn am incredibly slow but folks have been so patient kind generous helpful honest.I've leant so much. Tis a nice little gift to us trying to get our heads around all this you have created here artie. I get replies that make me learn give me the chance to see things that make it easier for me to assimilate, tis a real gift artie...... genuinely

    thank you

artie , the shutter speed, could you elaborate why you are fine with it, please? The guys have pointed me towards slower,i'm surely the most inexperienced here, within this conversation. Is it because I was trying for something with more action in and wanted to freeze the wings? artie i'm not there yet on anything tech s wise,I'm getting a handle on all this, things are starting to ,dare I say click (I know, i'll see my self out). So conflicting thoughts are always worth exploring, they give me avenues to slowly ponder. I was thinking here artie i had a little bit of time to choose my settings, right or wrong i'm an open book So exploring why someone chooses something especially my(learner) choices can be really thought provoking, which one takes into the field next time

    take care artie
