    Default Black-crowned Night-Heron juvenile

    This handsome youngster was catching the early morning sun at the Ocean City Rookery several weeks ago. I know he's a bit large in the frame; I should have taken off the TC. Cropped some from bottom, added a bit on top.

    D7200, 500f4 + 1.4 TC, ISO 100, 1/2500s @ f/7.1 manual.

    Bill I sometimes wonder if a TC downgrades images in anyway ,it certainly is not the case here,nice detail and I do like the punk hair do,all fits well on that dark bg.

    Hi Bill, lovely bird and the black BG is pretty cool. You know the bird is a bit large in the frame already. The head angle allows the viewer to see the eye, but I have just been reminded by Arash that when the bird head is not parallel to the camera, the eye is not round and that's the case here. So even though we see the eye, we don't get connected to the subject. Loi

    Hi Bill, I quite like this close up, as you dont have to crop in. I like the colours and detail, and the darker BG makes the heron pop nicely.

    Great capture, Bill. This juvenile is a cutie with its spiked hairdo. Like the detail and dark BG.
