    Default Clapper Rail in habitat

Another species from the Ocean City Rookery last Saturday morning. This guy gave us a brief look as he ran across an opening in a marshy area near the rookery. I tried to keep the center focus point on his head as he ran, but I got slightly ahead of him; I would have preferred just a smidge more space on the right. Cropped slightly from left and top.

But you got the exposure just right for my tastes here Bill, with focus spot on and even some of the reed BG sharp. This is a kind of image I really like--dark, yet alive with a bright bird, an interesting BG, and the uplifted leg of running. Great shot.

Agree with Bob, love this exposure. Well done Bill, I know how difficult it is capturing a good Rail image.

    Bill:

Good shooting angle, leg up a plus, good eye/catchlight. Yes a bit tight on the right, but because that area is dark, it seems to frame the bird well enough as to not bother me much.
Well exposed, very strong sense of his environment, without being overpowering.

    Cheers

This is quite a strong image of a difficult bird to find and photograph. I think you've done a great job educating the viewer on this species and its environment. Love the raised foot. Well done with a tricky situation.

Good one, Bill. He did give us a quick view in both directions, and I like the action you captured here. The focus situation worked out quite well. I too would like a bit more room on right, but certainly fine as posted.
