Another diving tern. Or rather, same Tern, another dive. From last Saturday at Ocean City. This one is a somewhat larger crop than the previous post, but I liked the dive and the background.

    D7200, 500f4 + 1.4 TC, ISO 800, 1/3200s @ f/8 manual. Remembered to add the catchlight this time.

Love the diving pose and the BKGR. The undertail coverts are very white. This image--like many I have created recently--shows an unfortunate fact" when the wind and the light are behind you and the pelicans and terns dive they almost always have their heads turned away from you during the dive. With focus on the body this always leave the head a bit unsharp, as here. In addition, I find these head positions far less then ideal.

Bill, love the diving pose and the multi-color BG. I'm not viewing this image with my best monitor, so can't comment on the brightness of the undertai. I have not photographed terns, so to my untrained eye, the head angle is not too bad, only I can't see the eye so clearly. TFS. Loi

Wonderful catch of the dive. I like the pose of the bird, showing how it is concentrating on its target. The BG is very pleasing, with some detail but not distracting.

That's because the head is angled away .

Yes, The head is angled away and as mentioned it could be better. But I love the pose and the tail and the BG is very interesting with the different layers. Adding catchlight certainly helped. TFS.

Thank you all for looking. Interestingly, the head angle was not high on my list of concerns on this one. To me it appears that he is looking almost straight down -- OK, maybe just slightly back -- and I like the way he seems to be focused on his destination. I do wish for slightly more sharpness and detail overall. The image is 60% of full width as presented; closer of course would have been better.
