Hey everyone - I was a tad quiet last week because we had a last-minute opportunity to go camping with the kids in the remote northern reaches of the Kruger National Park.
Images from the recent trip to follow soon.
For now, I thought I'd jump into the theme?

Shot this in the Mara Triangle last year, late morning, overexposing in-camera for high-key look (+2 EV I think).
    Just loved the scene...

    Techs:
    Nikon D3s
    Nikkor 70-200mm f2.8 VR-II @ 130mm
    f6.3 | 1/640 SS | ISO-450
Cropped to pano, pretty much full frame in width

    Good evening Morkel,

Thank you for jumping into the Theme, I hopped out for now because of lack of suitable frames, LOL.

This scene is so lovely to look at, the composition is superb and I like the BG peppered with little acacias! My eyes are drawn to the tall Indlulamithi (Zulu name for giraffe, translating as "the one who reaches out to the trees"), he is arching his neck so elegantly in his search for a few juicy leaves:)

Well seen and captured, your skilful processing brings out the true beauty of the African savannah in the most charming way - I really like this Morkel, thank you so much for sharing, enjoyed viewing

    Warmest regards,
    Gabriela Plesea

Hi Morkel -- This is fantastic , i loved the scene and also loved the fact that what you must have visualised before shooting this one has come out so nicely. The setting is so Mara like and outstretched pose of the Giraffe is going so well with the settings . Loved it .

    TFS !

Hi Morkel - Lovely scene with a bit of elegance. It works quite well as a high key toned image but I can't help but wonder how it works as a high key color image (hint, hint).

    TFS,
    Rachel

Very nice composition Morkel, I just personally find it a bit too Contrasty.

It has a 'Brendon J' look to me, which appears to be very 'in vogue' at present .

Hi Morkel this lovely ... and i also think it has an " elegant " touch to me .
Well composed and nicely arranged with all the trees giving a nice depth within the image .

I would also like to see the color version , and think the contrast is a wee bit high , in parts it does look a bit gritty .... might be compression / sharpening issue .
    Lovely work in the field

Cheers Andreas. I think you guys are picking up on the clarity of the leaves of the trees - not an issue with the larger file but perhaps the single round of sharpening when downsizing made it too gritty. There is also some heat-haze which affected the scene as a whole.

    Hi Morkel

    Like this very much.
Agree on colour version, in two minds re contrast...
Like the depth created here, draws the viewer deeper in.
    Well done!
    Regards

    Andre.
