First rays of sun yesterday at Ocean City Rookery. There were quite a number of Black-crowned Night Heron and Yellow-crowned Night Heron, some with youngsters of varying degrees of maturity. C&C welcome.

    Geoffrey:

Nice subject isolation, subtle spotlight effect. Open bill adds. The bird could use a little more sharpening on my monitor.

    Cheers

I like how the bird stands out of the dark BG and surroundings. Nice open beak and eye contact. Well done, Geoffrey.

Like the moment :)) and frame. Good light and tone balance of BG and bird. Well done. TFS.

Thanks Randy. First I mistakenly labeled him a Black-crowned Night heron, when he is in fact a Yellow-crowned Night-Heron. Would you please make the title correction for me. Thanks.

Great pose, beautiful light and a painterly background. Shows the value of getting up at 3:00 am -- thank goodness for Dunkin Donuts extra turbo shot on the drive down. Funny, I was just processing my version, snapped at precisely the same moment. Yours, with a full-frame body, gives him some breathing room. My crop-frame image has him too tight in the frame. Species noted.

Love the spot light effect on the bird. The dark BG works well here. I like the perch and the composition and the open beak/tongue. The red eye is special! Now that Randy mentioned about sharping, I agreed. TFS. Loi

Funky pose with the bill and tongue like that. Good call on the vertical comp. I love the perch! The B G is OK, but this would have rocked even more had it been all dark.

I corrected the title for ya.....

Thanks Daniel. As always, appreciate your input. I like the BG, and think it might be a bit stark if all dark. To me the BG adds a degree of depth. I can also visualize a completely dark BG possibly working.

Thanks also for correcting the title.
