First round of editing and more to follow, but thought I should post an image at least.
I'm not going to add anything much more than to what has been said on the MK2 already, but certainly for me, the two biggest factors is the Dynamic range and the additional factor of having f/8 with the 2x on all FP's. So toggling between the MKI & MKII did get a little frustrating at times, as the EV on the MKII has far more latitude. That being said, both MK1's have now gone and replaced with two MK2's, but both are going back to Canon for some tweaking in the coming weeks.
This was one of the first images taken early on the first game drive and boy, it was chilly, just above zero and it gets colder in an open jeep as you travel, LOL.. but probably the best trip we have encountered.
Thanks to those who viewed or posted a comment on the previous thread.

Subject: Burchell's Zebra (Equus quagga burchellii) with foal nursing
Location: Botswana
Camera: Canon 1DX MKII
Lens: 200-400f/4 MKII with 1.4x HH
Exposure: 1/1600s at f/5.6 ISO800 EV +0.33 (may be 1/2500?)
Original format: Landscape, slight crop
Processed via: LRCC & PSCC (Early days, but it appears that the files take a fraction less in PP and absolutely no issues with any software, a breeze)
Been waiting so patiently to see some images from your last trip:)
This is indeed striking, the zebra stand out beautifully and I just love those colours and textures. Beautiful detail and the image design is superb. The mood is one of tranquility and the scene evocative in itself.
Something really grabs me here, I think it must be the light: you mentioned capturing this frame early morning, this is a time when the air is crisp and clear and the colours more vibrant.
You have some remarkable ingredients here, from techs to lighting to the innocent young zebra feeding - I think they all come together so nicely! The cherry on top being your thoughtful processing of this well exposed, well composed image - some call this "Steve Magic"
Hi Steve - Glad to see you processed something and are happy with the new gear. I really like the soft muted color of the grass and lovely moment between mother and foal. Also nice angle to really see the foal nursing. Hmmm, best trip ever? That's saying a lot given our sightings last time. Looking forward to seeing the images.
Thank you Gabriela for the kind words, there is still more to come for sure, but all in good time. The MK2 files are easier to process, no question and certainly with the options in Software PP it is, as I said - a breeze, but small changes in my WF need to be done to adjust to the more 'cleaner' files. The trip also bolstered my Avian ID which was good, but would never make a 'Guide' lol, but also taking time out to look at tracks, marking etc which was great fun, although Baboon marks did through me occasionally and the switchback of Leopard tracks, these Guides are something else and I have always had a huge admiration for them over the years.
Cheers Rachel, yes this was awesome, but the Leopard sightings we had together were better IMHO, but witnessing the Roan/Lechwe Wild dog chases did outweigh the Impala/WD/Hyena encounter. Yes, it was even more full on, as 'WE' drove things far more and intense at times, but also I took more timeout to watch too. Will be interested to hear how you get on later, with all the fences and barriers taken down n the 'properties'. That perhaps is why things can be more 'Challenging' because animals roam freely far more here???
This image is very easy on the eye of the viewer. Crisp and clean, correct DOF, and the darker greens at back leads one "deeper" in the scene.
Like the position of fowl and Mom, works well in this comp.
Good one, Sir!
Hi Steve -- Always a pleasure to see your images and this one also lives up to your reputation of producing high quality images each and every time . I liked the soft colours and details in the subject with foal doing what it does the best . We all look upto your images and hope to produce the same when out there in the field . TFS !
Hi Steve havenīt talked for a while ..... nothing has changed in your work ... apart from becoming a bit better in small parts ... purely from the technical POV .
Think you must be happy with the new cam ...
Nice moment captured and well composed ... with really nice subtle colors and a good use of the tonal range .
Overall well done , Sir . Glad to hear you had a great trip . Why do you have to bring the cam to Mr canon ...?
I have just one thing that bites me in my eyes , not much you do about it .... the dark green patch in the BG is a bit conflicting with the zebras .... well from my POV
Looking forward to see more images from your trip, Steve!
I like this, nice soft light and a pleasing moment (would make a nice B&W too!)
Congrats on the new toys, certainly in good hands.
