    Default Sidewalk

I think this is a common tern - could be wrong; captured at the Tybee Beach in Georgia during a recent business trip to the other side of the country. Overcast day at 600mm, f/6.3, ISO 1600, 1/800 sec. From a 24MP file cropped to 14MP. Processed in LR.

Well exposed and nice smooth back ground. A little more space on the right will lift this image even more.

I like the walking pose very much. I have seen so many tern shots that something different is a nice. Your bird is a Forster's Tern, not a Common Tern. Told by the orange and not red bill with a black tip as well as the orange and not red legs. They are larger than Common Terns as well and have longer beaks. Of course that only helps if you see them side by side to compare.

I agree that I would crop this differently and give room for the bird to walk into. Meaning more room on the right and less on the left. The extreme right edge of the tern (the part that borders the sand) from below the beak to the mid chest is over exposed and you have lost all details in the whites. In addition the background is more noisy than I would prefer and would benefit from some noise reduction.

Also you have not told us the type of camera or lens that you used. Knowing that information has many benefits to those looking at your picture. Looking forward to some more shots...

Gerhard & Isaac, thanks for stopping by. Thank you for helping me ID this bird, Isaac. I am still not very good at differentiating these wonderful birds.

It is my intention for the bird to look like it is exiting the frame after all I did not leave all that negative space on the left empty. The foot prints on the LHS of the frame are there for that purpose.

EDIT: Oops, camera info: D750 + Tamron 150-600. One of these days, I need to get an Amazon affiliate link.

I like the post but the composition doesn't work for me, the bird is looking and moving to the right but there is too much empty space on the left. There is some visible noise on the darker areas
