These young ones, brother and sister and just about ready to fledge any day now, take a peak at the outside world...eager to venture out. Same tree as last year, but a different hole (they excavate a new nesting hole every year, sometimes many but then only use one).

Canon 7DII + 500mm f/4 II + 1.4TC III, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/320s., f/8, ISO 1600, natural light, handheld, about 75% FF, usual eye work, NR to the dark hole.

You did well considering the angle here, and I love their poses and the fact that you can sext them so easily. You have a great nest tree with good texture and catch lights in both of their eyes. We had a pileated pair here that nested in the same tree 3 yrs in a row. I wish they would all do that.

    Daniel:

I think the 'yearning' pose tells the story, ready to venture out, or of course, they might just be hungry and looking for chow to arrive!

Matching poses are excellent, lots of texture and detail on trunk to keep the viewers eye exploring.

    Very well done.

    Cheers

very cute shot Dan, love how they are peaking their heads out. might be tempted to crop out the BG entirely just to focus on the trunk and the nest
